Nikon Instant Rebates – August 2015

NOTE: These rebates ended on August 28th. Nikon announced a new instant rebate program that runs through October 3, 2015

Nikon is currently offering some great instant rebates that can save you between $50 to $900 on select Cameras and lenses from Nikon. Unfortunately Nikon has not specified an ending date so this promotion can end at any time. Instant rebates are great because the rebate is handled by the dealer. You don’t have to mail in paperwork and receipts, wait for a check and jump through hoops. You will find a link to Amazon to purchase under each item.

Update 8/24/2015

It appears that the Lens Only rebates will expire on August 28th.

Nikon D3300 Review

The Nikon D3300 is targeted at people looking for a SLR that is simple, small and a step up from their camera phones and point and shoot cameras. With it’s 24mp APS-C sensor and interchangeable lenses this is a great starter DSLR camera. The Nikon D3300 is Nikon’s smallest DSLR currently available with an APS-C sized imaging chip. Canon Rebel T5 Review

Refurbished Canon Rebel T5 $209.99

The Canon Rebel T5 is Canon’s current budget oriented DSLR camera. Featuring the same 18mp CMOS sensor of other recent Canon DSLR’s from the Rebel series and up to the 7D, the image quality is excellent. Because of the budget price, there are some features that the camera will be lacking when compared to the Rebel T5i, but when compared to some of the other cameras in the same price range it competes quite well. Sony A6000 Review

The Sony A6000 is another camera that I not only recommend, but personally own as well. My wife and I went to Disneyland in 2014 and I carried with me my Canon Canon 70D with EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and the entire time I kept thinking to myself, “I really wish I had the Sony A6000 for this trip instead”. A month after we got back, I bought mine, along with the 55-210mm lens at a killer discount. Read more Sony A6000 Review

The Blue Hour – Take better pictures at night

Have you ever wanted to learn to take better pictures at night? Here is the biggest secret: there is a very narrow window of opportunity for shooting amazing images of lit architecture at night called “The Blue Hour”. This is really a misnomer because it is not even close to an hour, but more like about 20-30 minutes where the sky is this amazing blue color from the suns light still illuminating the atmosphere after the sun has passed below the horizon. The blue hour happens approximately 15-30 minutes after the sun officially sets. Using an app on your smart phone you can calculate the time when this is expected to happen for any given day. It’s not the camera!

Allow me to share a secret with you. It’s not the camera that takes great pictures, it’s the Photographer. How often have you heard someone say “That’s a great picture, you must have a really nice camera”? Yeah, me, too. It is frustrating when people attribute all of your hard work to the equipment.
