The latest Canon 5D Mark IV rumors are that it will be announced just prior to Photokina in September. We could see an announcement as soon as the end of this month (August, 2016). Here are the latest specs that are expected:
- 30 Megapixels
- 7 Frames per Second
- GPS & WiFi built in to the body
- Touchscreen
- USB 3.0
- Dual Memory Card Slots: Compact Flash (not cFast) and SD Card Slot
- 4k Video (24/30FPS)
- High Speed Video options (60fps @ 1080 and 120fps at 720)
Pricing is also expected to come in right around $3100 US which is lower than the 5D Mark III (Amazon.com) price at introduction. If this is true that would help to balance the difference between the 6D (also rumored for replacement) and the 5Ds, although I would like to see the difference a little more balanced between the 5D IV and the 6D – mostly so I could afford one. 🙂
The 5D has been a stellar camera for Canon, especially since the video performance of the original Mark II set the standard for DSLR video. Canon has fallen behind lately and the Canon 5D Mark IV rumors looks to recover some of the lost ground.
The megapixel increase to 30 puts it ahead of it’s 24 megapixel competition, but comes up short against the higher 36/42/50 megapixel bodies from Sony/Nikon and the Canon 5Ds – this seems to strike a good balance between the 6D and the 5Ds cameras (20, 30 and 50 Megapixel options – pick your poison).
I’ve always liked and wanted a 5D Mark III, but wound up getting the 6D instead mostly due to the price difference. I have used the 5D III and always came away impressed. If the Mark IV has the rumored specs I am sure it will be a tremendous hit for Canon – especially among DSLR Video enthusiasts.
