Canon EOS RP Camera Review

When the Canon EOS RP was announced many were not very surprised – until they saw the price. At $1,300 it is the least expensive, full frame mirrorless camera available. The Canon EOS RP appears to be using the same 26.2 megapixel sensor as the 6D Mark II. The dual pixel technology is an ideal platform for a mirrorless camera as it offers near DSLR autofocus speed for mirrorless bodies.

The Canon EOS RP follows the EOS R as a more budget friendly body. There is no top LCD info screen, but with the electronic viewfinder I don’t feel this is necessary. Using a mirrorless camera is like the HUD (Heads Up Display) in a fighter jet.

Another great feature of the Canon EOS RP is the fully articulated LCD screen. This allows you to view from virtually any angle, but the best part is you can close the LCD agains the body to protect it from scratches when not in use.

The two biggest disappointments with the Canon EOS RP are the lack of in-body image stabilization and the 1.7 crop for 4k video. Battery life is also somewhat underwhelming with a CIPA rating of just 250 shots per charge.
